Rudy Giuliani headed to conservative Texas to reaffirm his pro-choice views and ended up getting booed yesterday - but not for what you might think.Top of Form
This article claims that Giuliani was booted because of his baseball team the NY Yankees and not his semi-pro-choice stand. The bottom line is that a conservative crowed did not like Giuliani for his views and not his baseball taste in teams.
The readers are made to believe that the students Bottom of Form at Houston Baptist University responded rowdy to a politician form out of state baseball preferences and not his political ones. The story is being sold to New York Yankees fans who love Roger Clemens, now a Houston Astros but a former Yankee once.
The article removes the issue at hand of a women’s choice to have an abortion and focused on the love he has for the Yankees. Even as the quotes used in the article support Giuliani issued of a woman’s choice as a presidential candidate.
The article was a total misconstrued of the issue and of the speech given by Giuliani and was more of a rant of the Yankee’s.
RUDY'S 'MORAL' STANCE BACKS ABORTION By CARL CAMPANILE
May 12, 2007 -- Rudy Giuliani said yesterday that he believes abortion is "morally wrong" but that he still supports a woman's right to terminate a pregnancy.
In this article the New York Post dig into the issue. That Giuliani r supports abortion rights during a speech before 500 students and professors at Houston Baptist University. It speaks to the reader about the issue of a conservative presidential hopeful and his liberal views.
The Post also give a background story to explain, why and how and the so what of the story. Giuliani is showing his true colors and even as it glamorizes him the Post does a dissent job of explaining what this speech would do to Giuliani’s career in the long run.
The quotes from Giuliani in the article where accurate and to the point. They focused with the issues article and what he said and why he said it. It evens goes and quotes other republican presidential hopefuls to gather their opinion on the speech and what it means to Giuliani’s carrier.
This article did a good job on the background story and gathering other candidates and politicians opinions. The article explained why a republican would not speak or think this way and the norm of such a candidate would be.
New York Times May 12, 2007 Giuliani Takes On G.O.P. Orthodoxy on Social Issues
By MARC SANTORA and ADAM NAGOURNEY
HOUSTON, May 11 — Rudolph W. Giuliani directly challenged Republican orthodoxy on Friday, asserting that his support for abortion rights, gun control and gay rights should not disqualify him from winning the party’s presidential nomination.
The New York Times does a great job handle-ling the issue of his speech. Where they went wrong is writing such a long piece of this one issue. The New York time explained the H and Ws but took too long do to so.
The issue is not that important to have such a massive article on. They even go further than the post and Interview religious aficionados at the convention to have their side or take on the speech. The idea of covering all the angels was a good one but the reader in New York would be left wondering was it necessary
In the end the NY Times article was more concise but it was too long and covered too much for the New York reader.
