Rocket boo-sters hit Rudy
Giuliani jeered for Yankee pride, not pro-choice
BY KATHLEEN LUCADAMO and DAVID SALTONSTALLDAILY NEWS STAFF WRITERS

Rudy Giuliani headed to conservative Texas to reaffirm his pro-choice views and ended up getting booed yesterday - but not for what you might think.Top of Form
This article claims that Giuliani was booted because of his baseball team the NY Yankees and not his semi-pro-choice stand. The bottom line is that a conservative crowed did not like Giuliani for his views and not his baseball taste in teams.
The readers are made to believe that the students Bottom of Form at Houston Baptist University responded rowdy to a politician form out of state baseball preferences and not his political ones. The story is being sold to New York Yankees fans who love Roger Clemens, now a Houston Astros but a former Yankee once.
The article removes the issue at hand of a women’s choice to have an abortion and focused on the love he has for the Yankees. Even as the quotes used in the article support Giuliani issued of a woman’s choice as a presidential candidate.
The article was a total misconstrued of the issue and of the speech given by Giuliani and was more of a rant of the Yankee’s.
RUDY'S 'MORAL' STANCE BACKS ABORTION By CARL CAMPANILE
May 12, 2007 -- Rudy Giuliani said yesterday that he believes abortion is "morally wrong" but that he still supports a woman's right to terminate a pregnancy.
In this article the New York Post dig into the issue. That Giuliani r supports abortion rights during a speech before 500 students and professors at Houston Baptist University. It speaks to the reader about the issue of a conservative presidential hopeful and his liberal views.
The Post also give a background story to explain, why and how and the so what of the story. Giuliani is showing his true colors and even as it glamorizes him the Post does a dissent job of explaining what this speech would do to Giuliani’s career in the long run.
The quotes from Giuliani in the article where accurate and to the point. They focused with the issues article and what he said and why he said it. It evens goes and quotes other republican presidential hopefuls to gather their opinion on the speech and what it means to Giuliani’s carrier.
This article did a good job on the background story and gathering other candidates and politicians opinions. The article explained why a republican would not speak or think this way and the norm of such a candidate would be.
New York Times May 12, 2007 Giuliani Takes On G.O.P. Orthodoxy on Social Issues
By MARC SANTORA and ADAM NAGOURNEY
HOUSTON, May 11 — Rudolph W. Giuliani directly challenged Republican orthodoxy on Friday, asserting that his support for abortion rights, gun control and gay rights should not disqualify him from winning the party’s presidential nomination.
The New York Times does a great job handle-ling the issue of his speech. Where they went wrong is writing such a long piece of this one issue. The New York time explained the H and Ws but took too long do to so.
The issue is not that important to have such a massive article on. They even go further than the post and Interview religious aficionados at the convention to have their side or take on the speech. The idea of covering all the angels was a good one but the reader in New York would be left wondering was it necessary
In the end the NY Times article was more concise but it was too long and covered too much for the New York reader.

Thug-thumping granny is a hit
New York Daily News Thug-thumping granny is a hit By Mark Lelinwalla and Jess Wilsloski Monday, May 7th 2007
George Steinbrenner can only hope his hitters have this much moxie.
This article has a delayed lead as it has two articles in one and explains the lead only as it unravels it self at the very end. One article is the Vera Curioli, a 68-year-old grandmother who was being rob at 4:00 am and fought back with a N.Y. Yankee bat at her restaurant in Westchester and other is the die-hard Bombers fan who was brought to Yankee station for her bravery and cool thinking in the attempting robbery at her restaurant.
The article is a good piece of writing and an easy to understand even as there are two articles. The two articles are well written and very accurate. The articles have no real objectivity and are fair as only Curioli seems to be the news story and not the robbery or the trip to Yankee stadium. The articles do take the reader on a roller coaster ride as the article bounces back and forth form the visit to Yankee stadium to the robbery at her restaurant.
The writer does a marvelous job in reporting the accounts of the robbery and the visit to Yankee stadium. The article has a lot of imageries and it putts the reader at Yankee stadium and at the restaurant the morning of the incident. The news reporting of the piece give a serious side to the reader and again a sense of being there, but the trip to Yankee stadium is giving it a humanistic feeling to it as well.
There will be some readers that will find the bouncing back and forth of the article uncomfortable but this is what truly makes this article a readable human interest piece. To many the article is just the robbery and the trip. I could be cut to one forth of its size as most of the article is fluff. The article has a sense of balance with all the extra human facts that it takes on needing them to make the article.

The Questioning of Two News Articles
New York Daily News Monday, May 7th 2007, 4:00 AM
Cop cruisers seized in slay probe Oren Yaniv with News Wire Services
The investigation into the killing of a homeless immigrant in Westchester County took a bizarre turn when two police cars were impounded as part of the case, authorities said yesterday.
This article is compact and to the point but leaves too many questions unanswered. The article focuses on an ongoing investigation and can’t give too many details. It kept on point and precise and left other questions arise from the investigation without explanation or answers. The article has too many holes, very little or no investigation done. The many things it could have worked on were the police cruisers, the other two murder victims and the police officers who responded to the victims call.
The article needed to give more information on the fact that Perez is the third Guatemalan immigrant to have died in Mount Kisco under similar circumstances since 2004. What was the outcome of the two previous homicides and what details can’t be given to fill this article.
The article does not give details about the other two homicides as they are some how touch on as part of or referenced to this murder. It does apply the where, when, how, what and asks the why but little is know about the cruisers and who will check them out.
I think the investigation on the cruisers should have gone more in depth and all the w’s and h asked on the cars. There is the focus of the article to stay with the murder of Mr. Perez. The investigation of the officers involves should of also being divulge about. If their cars are being impounded what is happening to the officers. The reader is left with too many questions about the circumstances around the article.
New York Daily News Deadbeat ex-judge gets break in court
By Nancie L. Katz Monday, May 7th 2007
Manhattan judge dropped her arrest warrant last week against a deadbeat dad who owes $250,000 in child support because the father - a former judge himself - said he was poor and depressed.
This article is a news and opinion piece from the writer. The article tells of a dead beat dad who is getting away from paying his child support and a poor woman who owed 50 times less who couldn’t.
The article claims and reports that Justice Joan Lobis' decision was base on Reynold Mason being a former judge and not on the justice system. Writer Nancie Katz takes great quotes from Abrams Mason former wife claiming there’s no justice. As she and her three children are facing an eviction notice form their Long Island home.
The Daily News investigated the causes of Mason so call depression. He is now a real estate agent in Georgia who also has declared bankruptcy. The news article should have explained New York’s child support laws and how they are implemented. Also explain on how the child support amount does change when the salary of the parent changes.
The article should of researched the claims that Mason is depressed with supporting evidence of any medical doctor or medication being taken. If Katz was to question Mason’s depression more information about it should of being uncovered.

The news leads that read one way and took a wrong turn
New York Times, May 6, 2007States Ponder Laws to Keep Web Predators From Children, By Jennifer MedinaHARTFORD, May 4 — Nearly every American teenager, it seems, has a Web page displaying his or her life details. And nearly every parent has nightmares that someone might visit those pages, easily discovering where the children live and what they like.
This lead opens the imagination of the reader to an article, which will so call be about the Internet and the dangers children face there. The article takes a particular twist that leaves the reader in the end in state of “AH!” First it scares the reader with a couple of arrests made by the FBI against sexual predators. It explains literally the criminal violations committed by these predators on children. After all this, it goes to explain the propose law the attorney general of Connecticut Richard Blumenthal and other politicians of Connecticut are trying to pass to protect children in the Internet.
The article goes on a moral crusade to villainies the politicians and their new law. The rest of the article tries to explain what the law is without gibing details and how it can hurt the public. It also tries to explain how it may also help the children from themselves.
This article focused more on Mr. Blumenthal and Roy Cooper, the North Carolina attorney general, both Democrats, who feel they will protect the youth from predators and themselves. It evens ends with a quote from the leader of the opposing political side State Senator Andrew J. McDonald, a Democrat who is trying to veto the proposal.
This article thus informative did not keep its focus on the children but focus on the politicians and their laws. The writer should of open up with, In Connecticut, Internet-Child bill moves smoothly through committees and is awaiting a full legislature vote and similar proposals have been introduced by state lawmakers in New York and Georgia to protect our children from predators in the Internet.
New York Post May 7, 2007 No Mercy For Shot Girl Terrified Kid, 12, Sent Into Gunfight By Joe Mollica, C.J. Sullivan and Leonard GreeneMay 7, 2007 -- A 12-year-old girl was shot in the back after she tried to take refuge in a doorway - with bullets flying outside a rowdy Bronx party - and was turned back onto the street by an angry resident, police and witnesses said yesterday.
The article stays true to its lead about half way through and then it starts to ramble and takes explanations from eyewitnesses, friends and even Police Commissioner Ray Kelly. The article should of being about the person who turned his or her back on the teens. Who was this person who kicked her out as the gun fight was partaking out side? This is the question asked by the title and not being answer by the article.
Taking the story back to the party or even writing about the aledge gang member is irrelevant to this story. The lead is not youth was shot down by gang member in the Bronx, but she was thrown out of building.
The information of the members of a gang called Dominicans Don't Play is disputable and is not confirmed by sources of the NYPD. This information should be written with a reliable source to confirm it. Also the incidents that happened 18 months ago that fatally gunned down another youth is immaterial to this case or article and there is nothing or little to do with this lead. The person who needs to be identified is not identified or what they said to push the teens out quoted. The story needs to focus on the resident that showed no mercy to the teens and why. All that happen before and after has no bearing on the article.

Comrade’s Shot Killed New York State Trooper
New York Times Comrade’s Shot Killed New York State Trooper By
LISA W. FODERARO Published: April 28, 2007
This article was very extensive and very detailed from the quotes to the actions that took place inside the house. It showed all the W’s and the H, but most important the so what. The lead of this article is direct in showing all aspects of the article to come. The lead went from clearing Travis Trim as the shooter to indirectly blaming another trooper for the death of trooper Brinkerhoff.
One question it did not answer was the claim of Travis D. Trim; a 23-year-old college dropout from North Lawrence, N.Y. was a drug addict and had mental illness. The New York Times article states, “Mr. Trim’s family and friends portrayed him this week as a troubled man with a paranoid disposition and a recent history of drug use.” This so call drug use or mental illness can be hear say or taken as deformation of character by paranoid conspiracy theory Waco’s out there. There was no substantial evidence for claiming this but to give another reason for the death of Trim by state troopers.
Foderaro gets very good quotes as she even interview Trim’s Grandmother Ruth, but lacks to have one doctor or to quote or any other medical professionals on Trims mental health or his illegal drug use. Foderaro also fails to quote any specific family or friends to his so call drug use.
The story detailed the tragic fall of one of New York’s troopers leaving behind the death of Trim, a sick man roaming without any medical treatment. The article does not villainesses Trim but it points him out as the cause of New York state trooper David C. Brinkerhoff death. This was a case of being at the wrong place at the wrong time scenario for Trim and trooper Brinkerhoff.
The quotes form Brinkerhoff brother as well as from Gov. Eliot L. Spitzer exonerated the other troopers’ action and conclude the situation as accidental, claiming no one at fault. There should be a bad guy in this story and it should be poor training lack of equipment, but it can’t be left as just an accident.
The statistic from 1893 showing there have been 198 such fatalities makes this strategy one more in the one hundred plus and not special or an isolated case. I think this removes a lot form the article humanistic side to a bland and none objective article. It does show a balance and fairness but lacks the verification of Trim’s drug abuse and mental illness.

Borja's 911 Conection
The Daily News article, My dad will always be a hero to me! On February 13, give another great example of dreadful news reporting and then trying to cover up all the mistakes which have being made. The Article in the NY Times Investigates Borja's 9/11 Connection, you read facts about what really happen, true account and the question which should of being asked when writing a news article. The Daily News should have retracted the story or given some type of apology for the miss information about Mr. Borja. They bluntly made a mistake about him being a first respondent and when he truly arrived at ground zero. They should have asked doctors at the hospital about his condition, family and co-workers. They relied on the words of a Pilipino reporter making a world class paper assume this was all true and then reporting on third person information. The article had the making of a novel as it relayed the emotion of Ceasar Borja Jr. instead of focusing on the facts. Ceasar Jr. is quoted by the Times to his true motives of only highlighting 911 victims and not his father, but the Daily News displayed the story on an emotional tabloid base instead of of news paper story.REP. Maloney issued a statement to give the article in The New York Tines of Cesar Borja more credibility in the US Fed News. Her point was also to highlight the victims of 911 and to have the government monitor the effects of the dust and debris left by 911. These issues were the ones highlighted by Ceasar Jr. to the NY Times. Instead of news we received the emotional rhetoric of a son by the Daily News. The NY Times proves its superiority and non bias or non-ethnocentric ways of writing and article as the idea of reporting news, is that, reporting non bias issues and events.

Giuliani For President
Giuliani Steps Closer to a Run in 2008
In the New York Times article for the race to presidency for Mr. Giuliani the main idea was always on track. The focus was always on Giuliani running for president of the United States but first wining the republican nomination to the white house. The NYT was very professional in explaining the who, when, why, where, what and the how.
The story chronological setting gave the reader a great understanding of what the real issue was, which is the filing for the presidency. It makes a good point in comparing not only Hilary Clinton but also other Republican candidates such as John McCain and Mitt Romney. It read as if it didn’t have any bias towards any other republican nominees or democrats.
'RUNNIN' MATES' JUDI 'N' RUDY AIM FOR '08
In the New York Post the article on Giuliani was more about the wife of Rudy Giuliani, than about him or his cadency to the presidency. The article takes a twist from his political ambition and what he is trying to accomplish to how his wife feels about him. It goes on to talk about his habits and health and not about the political arena. This article does touch on the election of 2008 but it goes to narrate his wife’s thoughts on it and about what she thinks of her husband. It took al credibility as a political article or the little news that it had. It was an article made for some woman magazine talking about a woman’s husband and how a wife feels about her husband.
Name juggling creates sticky Web for Giuliani
The Daily News took a completely different approached to the story as it wrote about a kid who registered the name of Giuliani. This teenager has obtain and registered the name and has the website showing some type of profanity on it. It moved away from the issue of the election of the presidency in 08 completely. This article was not news and it only was a tabloid story for the gossip section of some type of magazine. It read as it ridicule Giuliani and his staff more than it spoke about the election process and what was at stake to get to the white house. The New York Times was the only paper that did cover the story on Giuliani’s bid for the presidency. They presented and educate argument and represented the facts rather well, it was an informative read for an educated reader who is looking for the news.
